What is your favorite TV show and why?
I’ve always loved Aaron Sorkin’s writing and I’m a big fan of The West Wing. It is inspiring to see people live out their values even when it isn’t convenient or easy.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I’d love to be able to learn things like Neo did in The Matrix. There’s so much to explore and interact with in the world, it would be great to be able to download some software and suddenly be able to play piano by ear or speak Mandarin.
Why Messiah?
We were drawn to Messiah because of the strong lay leadership, commitment to the community, and the way that our children were welcomed and accepted.
What was an important Jesus moment in your life?
I remember gathering with other students for a prayer service on September 11, 2001. We were in the suburbs of New York City. Everything seemed so chaotic and uncertain around us and yet there was peace and comfort as we read scripture, prayed, and sang songs of faith. That day really drove home for me God’s promise to be with us in all circumstances.
Why is the church community important to you?
The Church community is a family to me. Each time we have accepted a call to a new congregation it has meant uprooting ourselves and starting over. We end up counting on the congregation for many of the things that other people turn to their family for. I love that our kids have surrogate cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents.
