Pastors' Blog: Responding to political events February 2025

Often, people tell me that they want to keep politics out of church. And while there's a certain wisdom in that, from time to time the politics of the day invoke the Church, in general, or our (Lutheran) branch of the Church, specifically. Our faith does not call us to support one political party or another, but it does call on us to have certain responsibilities towards our neighbors. From our confirmation liturgy: ". . . to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and strive for justice and peace in all the earth"

In the last few weeks, bishops and other key leaders from our denomination have published open letters that are worth your time and consideration and speak to how we live out those responsibilities.

Pastor Robyn and I remain committed to caring for all of the people of Messiah. These are difficult times and call for prayerful discernment. We hope that if you have questions or concerns about what you've read and seen here, or how God might be calling you to respond, that you'd reach out to one of us for a conversation.
