One Mile Mission Supplies and Volunteers Needed to help with service project at Jason Lee, Affinity Room at Columbia River

On Wednesday, March 1 from 9am - 11am, Messiah will be partnering with Jason Lee Middle School for an all-school day of service. Students will all sign up for service projects. Some will take place at the school and some will take place at Messiah Hazel Dell. Many volunteers are needed. Vancouver School District volunteer clearance is needed to help with the event. In addition, donations of items are needed for some of the service projects that day. Items can be brought now to the main office or to any worship service.

Items include:

  • Full size bars of soap, individually wrapped
  • Adult size toothbrushes, original packaging
  • Sturdy combs
  • Light weight bath-size towels
  • Metal nail clippers, in original packaging
  • Yarn
  • Old cotton t-shirts
  • Individual cups of fruit
  • Granola bars
  • Fruit leathers
  • New men's and women's socks

Messiah is also partnering with Columbia River High School to help decorate the school's new affinity room, where different groups who share commonality at the high school would be able to meet and feel comfortable. The school has set up an Amazon Wish List if you would like to donate an item to the room:

Echo Moran-Prince, Prevention and Intervention Specialist at Columbia River High School wrote this letter to Messiah:
I wanted to reach out and thank you all so much for the help you offered our Christmas families. Both families were beyond grateful for your help and love, one is a single mom who struggles with mental health and she knew she would not be able to provide a Christmas for her daughter. Your donations made Christmas possible for them. Our other family is an immigrant family and currently living with relatives as they cannot afford their own place quite yet. You also made their Christmas possible.
I would also like to thank you all on the behalf of our school for all the donations you provide to our care closet. We have lots of needy students and your donations make it possible for them to bring home much needed items that they normally cannot provide for themselves.
