New Options for Children to Engage with Worship at Messiah

At Messiah the wiggles, laughter, and unpredictability of kids is embraced and celebrated and children are always welcome to worship in the Sanctuary.

The following options are also available to help kids engage in worship however works best for them and their families.

Nursery: The newly remodeled nursery will officially reopen on Easter Sunday! The nursery is a space full of fun options to help kids play, create, and cultivate friendships with their peers. The nursery will be staffed by a trusted nursery team, and they will always be excited to welcome all who enter!

Each Sunday, all kids who are dropped off at the nursery will be accompanied by nursery staff back to the Sanctuary in time for the children's message and communion. This allows them time to play and time to enjoy worship together with their families. Additionally, Messiah's paging system gives parents and guardians peace of mind, as the nursery staff can always contact them during worship if their child needs something.

Pray-Ground: The Pray-Ground has relocated to the front of the Sanctuary, and has been redesigned to help kids better engage with worship. Age-appropriate materials will be provided to help children participate with worship each Sunday. This space is not staffed, so parents and guardians will be responsible for monitoring their kids as they use this space.

Worship Bags: The kids' worship cart will remain in the Narthex near the front doors of the Sanctuary. This cart is full of items that kids of all ages can take with them into the Sanctuary as they sit with their families during worship. Please help direct your kids to fill an empty blue bag with whatever items they would like, and return the full bag of items to the coat tree when they are done. These items will be sanitized after worship, so that they are ready for the next week.

One of my biggest goals in my role at Messiah is for children and youth to feel welcome and included in worship. However, as many have noticed, the number of children have definitely outgrown the children's space in the back of the Hazel Dell campus Sanctuary. While I love the little space that has been have created there, I am incredibly excited to expand and grow to better suit the needs of a growing population of children attending worship.

Thank you to everyone who has been working hard to help get these spaces ready for the Easter launch!
