Endowment grant updates; applications due September 23

If you have a wonderful idea that needs funding, please visit the church website and fill out a Grant Request Form for the Endowment Committee to consider. Third quarter requests are due by September 23. Requests that are approved must also be approved at the October meeting of the CLT. Over $20,000 still exists for dispersal.

Endowment Committee Second Quarter Grants
Only two grant requests were submitted and subsequently approved by the Committee as well as the Church Leadership Team. Jessica Potts was awarded $750 to rent a van to transport high school youth to Seattle for service work in that area. (They came home early and funds were returned to the Endowment Fund that weren't used.). Jessica also was awarded $500 to be applied to Treat Street which comes near Halloween. Because so little money was requested this quarter, it was decided to approve $1000 each to requests that had been made in the first quarter and weren't fully funded several months ago. So additional money was sent to Shoshone Mountain Retreat for remodeling and also to Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center for scholarships. Both of these are utilized by the youth in our church.

A Thank You Note Received
In the first quarter of the year, we awarded $2000 to Lutheran Community Services Northwest. We received the following email thank you:
"Dear Pastor David and Pastor Robyn: Greetings! What a wonderful surprise to receive your incredibly generous support for our refugee services! Gifts like these provide welcome resources that help close the funding gaps across our many lines of service.
Our work in the space of walking alongside newcomers continues despite funding cuts." Their note went on to suggest that someone come to visit Messiah and share about their efforts.
