Brewed Theology May 19 at Sipp: Beggars and Panhandling

Topic: Beggars and Panhandlers"panhandling," or begging, is a worldwide phenomenon that has existed throughout history and across cultures.

It's something just about everyone has witnessed, at home or abroad. And frankly, when we encounter a panhandler, a distinct and universal discomfort arises in most of us—even as we might try to ignore it or quickly move on to our next thing.

Maybe there's even a recognition of guilt that we are beneficiaries of a social and economic hierarchy that doesn't treat everyone equally.

As people of faith, we also experience the nagging question (if we allow ourselves a microsecond to think about it): "What is the Christ-like response that God would have me make for the sake of my neighbor who begs?"
