What was an important Jesus moment in your life?

As a young pastor my first funeral was for a 45-year old woman. As she lay there in her final minutes, her husband read aloud to her from the Apostle Paul, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." (Phil 4.4-6) It was incredibly moving—sad and triumphant at the same time. The power of the promises we have because of Jesus' death and resurrection washed over me that day.

What is the best vacation place you've ever been to?

A coast-to-coast solo motorcycle ride across Canada.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

"The Older I Get, the Less I Know." Just ask my sons... or my wife... or me.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Oh, but I do— to forgive sins in Jesus' name.

Why do you believe in God?

Believing in God is something I caught within a community of believers starting with my family. And now God won't let go of me. The gift of faith in Jesus the Christ is what gives me hope and purpose everyday.

Why Messiah?

I can't imagine my life without him and his people at this church by his name. He's the only God I know who became human and therefore knows me through and through.
