Three CRHS graduates receive 2017 Judy Joy Fund Scholarships

Pictured are Ray, Vanessa, and Judy Herkert on graduate recognition Sunday 2012.

Judy Herkert was a classroom assistant at Columbia River High School who worked with teacher Tim Smith. She loved her students. She loved her work. And she loved her church, Messiah Lutheran.

Judy died in December 2014 after a long battle with breast cancer. Following her death, Judy's sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and John Patience helped establish the "Judy Joy Scholarship Fund" through Messiah for students attending CRHS. A small committee consisting of Messiah members and school administrators select recipients each year.

This year awards went to Caitlyn Lane who will be attending Western Washington State University, Cassidy Peru who will be attending Washington State University in Pullman, and Erik Rogers who will be attending Clark College. Previous 2015 and 2016 recipients will continue to receive scholarship support from the fund. Three years of total distributions from the Judy Joy Fund have now totaled $49,000.
