Dear Diana and Jeane – Messiah's Children's Quilt Ministry
We want to thank you for sending the beautiful children's quilts for those affected by the Oso landslide.
The quilt that had the trucks on it was given to Jacob Spillers. You probably saw pictures of him in the news—it has become an iconic photo from the disaster. Jacob's father and three siblings all died in their home. It was a miracle that, somehow, Jacob popped up to the top of the mud. His mother was not at home at the time and is alive to care for him. I am told that he loves trucks and the quilt is perfect for him.
The three other quilts were given to the children of Ryan Pszonka. His sister, her husband and their two children—the Ruthven family—were all lost in the tragedy. Ryan and his wife have three children, so they lost their two cousins who were about their same ages. One of Ryan's children attends our preschool and the family was very appreciative to receive the three quilts and the comfort they represent.
Again, we are thankful for your kindness and for the beautiful quilts. They are a comfort to these families.
God's grace and peace be with you,
Pr. Scott Summers, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Arlingrton, WA
