Prayer Breakfast Fall 2019 Web ResPr. Peter invites you to a new 8-week study of Microaggressions in Ministry: Confronting the Hidden Violence of Everyday Church by Cody Sanders and Angela Yarber. The study will start November 26 in the weekly Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast Small Group. The group meets at 6:00a at Panera Bread Company on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell.

Facilitated by Pr. Peter and Intern Pastor Taran, each session will begin with prayer and end when the first participant leaves for work, usually around 7:05-7:10a. Newcomers and guests are always welcome and may pop in any week.

A limited number of the Microaggression texts are available for purchase in the front office at the church for $15/book. The books are also available at Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

It is a perfect time to jump in, try it on, and discover how once-a-week prayer and study can enhance your spiritual life. The Tuesday Morning Small Group is always open to newcomers and guests. If you are a first-timer, your breakfast is on Pr. Peter!

Synopsis of "Microaggressions in Ministry"
No one at Messiah actively wants to oppress or hurt others. No one among us would knowingly want to participate in racism, sexism, and heterosexism. This study is about raising our awareness about the myriad of small (micro) and deleterious ways that Christians participate in making their communities difficult places for women, persons of color, and LGBTQs to feel welcome and participate. Authors Sanders and Yarber bring to attention how well-meaning Christians—and their respective communities and institutions—unintentionally alienate groups of people from their communities with subtle slights, insults, and indignities expressed to persons of varied minority statuses.

About the Authors
Cody Sanders is pastor of Old Cambridge Baptist Church in Harvard Square, MA, and holds a PhD in pastoral theology and pastoral counseling.

Angela Yarber is the author of seven books, all of which explore the intersections among gender/sexuality, religion/spirituality, and the arts. Titles include Holy Women Icons and The Gendered Pulpit. She holds a Ph.D. in Art and Religion.
