Thank you for your year-end giving! Messiah Lutheran Church documents year-end gifts in accordance with IRS regulations. This means that any contributions you'd like to deduct for tax purposes in 2018 must be received by the Church office before the office closes at 3:00p on Monday, December 31, or online by midnight. Offerings sent via mail must be postmarked by 12/31/2018.
As you make your gifts, be sure to indicate the amounts dedicated for 2018 operating and the amount for our See What 'Yes' Can Do 3-year comprehensive campaign. (If you have made pledges for 2019, you may want to consider giving a portion of this in 2018. Not only may it help in your personal financial planning, it will also be beneficial for Messiah in accomplishing our goals to call a Mission Developer, improve our facilities, and retire our debt as soon as possible.
Creative Ideas for Giving:
In addition to checks, here are some other ways to provide your support:
Appreciated assets, such as stock, that has been owned for at least a year can be gifted directly to Messiah Lutheran Church. In doing so, the full value of the stock can be used as a charitable gift, and taxes are not owed on capital gains.
For those who are age over 70 1/2, you can transfer funds directly from your IRA to Messiah Lutheran Church. Such a transfer is not reportable income to you and can meet your required minimum distribution for the year. Such transfers are limited to $100,000 per year and not deductible as a charitable donation, but have the potential to reduce your tax bill because there is no reportable income.
Donor- Advised Funds
While pledges cannot be made from a Donor Advised Fund or Family Foundations, grants can be distributed.
