"See What 'Yes' Can Do" Devotion for Nov. 3-4 | by the Rev. Steve Olson, Capital Campaign Consultant for Messiah |
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. - Hebrews 12:1
Among our first words are "me" and "mine" before we learn to use the words "yours" and "ours". Most often, our parents are our first teachers in the lesson of sharing our toys. Sharing is a learned behavior and, for those that carry the lesson with them, they discover the joy that comes in doing so. Do you remember the first Christmas when you found yourself more excited about watching a loved one open a present you had made for them than you were unwrapping your own presents? In those moments, we experience joy – because we "remember" who we were meant to be in the first place. Created in God's image, we are meant to be givers and to share what has been entrusted to us.
Beyond the basic lesson of sharing, others model generosity for us. Who are some of those people in your life? How will you model generosity for others through this Campaign?
PRAY: Give thanks for the saints in your life who taught you to share and modeled generosity for you.
REMINDER: The "See What 'Yes' Can Do" campaign culmination is the weekend of November 17-18.
Watch these Messiah member share why they've decided to say 'yes.'
