First Impressions

"How long have you been at Messiah Lutheran Church? What drew you to Messiah?"

Those have been my two greeting questions as I meet and greet so many of you for the first time. As you can imagine, the answers to both of those questions are incredibly diverse. The length of time folks have been at Messiah has ranged from walking in the door for the first time to those who have been here for more than 60 years. More profound than the variety of tenure has been the many ways the Messiah has used Messiah Lutheran church to call, gather, and bring the gospel to those in Vancouver, Washington.

The warm welcoming community, the number of ministries in which to be involved, the music, Pr. Peter's "Arnold Schwarzenegger poses" during pre-school chapel, Vacation Bible School, the location (both the Hazel Dell site/sanctuary and Messiah North on the golf course), the congregation being kind and gracious; all of these have been answers to "what drew you to Messiah?" These same sentiments are what has captured me about Messiah.

This church is a place for those who want modern worship. It is a place for those who love traditional organ music. It is a place where children can play during worship (right up front). It is a place where you can learn and grow in your faith. Messiah Lutheran Church is a place where you can worship on three different days of the week. It is a place where you can regularly receive Christ's promises in the sacraments. Here is a place that welcomes young and old alike. This a place that has opportunities for you to find a place of belonging.

Messiah Lutheran Church has warmly embraced my wife and me in our first month joining in ministry here in Vancouver. It is a place where Christ calls you to come, hear, taste, and see that the Lord is good.
