Introducing Julie Bracken, new Minister of Welcome volunteer

Julie Bracken has joined Messiah's staff as a volunteer, serving as part-time Minister of Welcome. Her role will be to connect and follow up with guests, make connections between newcomers and regulars, and to train everyone in the fine art of hospitality. You will see Julie circulating in the lobby of the Hazel Dell campus before and after services.

Julie is on the Word and Service roster of the ELCA as a commissioned Deacon. Currently without a specific call to serve a congregation in the area, Julie decided to volunteer for this role at Messiah. She has previously served as transitional minister for Bethany Lutheran Church in Longview and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Vancouver as these congregations went through extended call processes for a new pastor.

Julie attended both Luther and George Fox Seminaries, taking courses in the Master of Divinity and chaplaincy programs. She has extensive experience as a hospital chaplain and previously led a support group at Messiah for caregivers of those suffering with dementia. She also wrote an autobiographical piece for Messiah's website, in which she shared how her mother's death shaped her life. (Click here to read it.) Welcome Julie!
