Intern Ryan receives Call of the Texas-Lousiana Gulf Coast Synod to serve as Mission Developer Pastor

Ryan met last week with members of Celebration Lutheran Church, Cypress, TX, where he will serve as full-time pastor. His farewell weekend at Messiah is this Saturday and Sunday

Pastoral Intern Ryan returned last week from a two-day, whirlwind trip to Cypress, TX (near Houston), where he met with the leaders and members of Celebration Lutheran Church, a progressive, sacramental community of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Celebration community is about the same size as Messiah North (MN) and, like MN, rents space for meeting and worship. Ryan will technically serve as a redevelopment pastor as this 10-year-old congregation rebuilds its mission and ministry, having experienced significant membership decline in recent years.

Ryan is excited about serving a community that is open to taking risks and thinking about unique ways to be Church in the community. He is also happy to be back in the Houston area where his family lives. Says Ryan, "Bre and I are eager to be in one place for an extended period of time, establish our roots, and begin our own family."

FROM PRS. PETER AND KATHY

Dear Members and Friends of Messiah,

Pastoral Intern Ryan Dockery will be completing his year at Messiah this weekend, August 18-19. He will preach his swansong sermon on Saturday and Sunday during all services at the Hazel Dell campus. During the 9:45am Sunday service, we will give special thanks for his ministry and celebrate his time among us. There will also be receptions in his honor after Sunday services to provide the opportunity for everyone to express their thanks to Ryan. His final Sunday at Messiah North was August 5.

It is customary for congregations hosting pastoral interns to offer an opportunity to give a special monetary gift to their interns as they conclude their tenure. You may contribute online by going to Messiah's online giving portal. After entering the amount of your gift, use the Select a fund pull-down menu to select "Special Donation" (it's the first choice at the top the list), type "Ryan" into the optional memo field, and then click the blue "Continue" button.

Your online gift will be recorded on your annual giving statement and combined with others' contributions in a single check from the congregation.

There will also be a card basket available for non-tax-deductible gifts direct to Ryan in the HD lobby.

As we say our goodbyes, we will also look forward to the coming of Messiah's next seminary intern from Luther Seminary, Joel Hinck, and his family.

Thank you for all the ways you serve to support, nurture, and encourage the next generation of pastors for the church.

Yours in Christ, Prs. Peter and Kathleen Braafladt
