Forum Summer Intern Ben Hogue (2009) will be ordained as an ELCA Pastor

Ben has been called to serve as Associate Pastor at Lutheran Church of the Reformation, Washington, D.C.

Ben served as a summer intern at Messiah in 2009. At the time he was a student at California Lutheran University. He graduated with dual degrees in Advertising/Public Relations and Sociology. Upon graduation, Ben joined the Peace Corps. He served in Ukraine, in the small village of Kolky from 2010-2013, teaching English, leadership, and country studies, and helped to organize and run teacher and youth camps. After returning to the states, he attended Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, a part of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. His ordination service will be in his home congregation of Shepherd of the Valley LC in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Ben's intern partner during his summer at Messiah was Rachael Manzo. Charlie and Robbie Schmalenberger hosted both interns in their home for the summer. Among the humorous memories, which members of Messiah hold of Ben was of his favorite graphic tee shirts that read, "Life is too short for white wine." We hope there are plenty of red wine sellers in the D.C. Congratulations Ben!
