Voters approve a threefold capital campaign and, if needed, authorize a short-term loan to begin work on the church's roofs. |
At a special meeting of the congregation this past Sunday members of Messiah approved two matters. The first supported a capital campaign to fund a mission developer, to make capital repairs at the Hazel Dell campus, and to retire debt, and passed on a vote of 53 yes, 38 no, and 1 abstention. The second authorized the Church Leadership Team to obtain a short term loan (if necessary) for roof repairs to begin as soon as possible, and passed on a vote of 90 yes, 1 no, and 1 abstention.
The congregation's leaders are grateful to everyone who participated in the meeting and offered their faithful responses to the questions. We continue forward with the work you have commissioned us to do. We do recognize that there isn't unanimity on the Mission Developer, and invite all of the Messiah community to continue with us in dialog – and prayer – toward the best outcome of our work together. We will honor God by our desire to be faithful in these efforts, we know God will continue shaping our mutual understanding, and we trust that grace will fill in the gaps.
The official capital campaign won't begin until September (which is one of the reasons for the possible short term loan, so roof repair can happen this spring or summer). We will soon pull together a team to begin planning for the campaign, we will be working on the process to identify an outstanding Mission Developer, and we will be working on the capital repair needs, starting with the roof.
As it says in John 13, verse 35: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (NIV). We are the people of God, gathered in community, and known by our love for each other and God. This will be at the center of what we do and who we are as Messiah now and into the future. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
